Jazz Is Alive & Well In New York - Documentary , 1973

Here's the page from Paul Motian's datebook about this rehearsal. It was on July 1, 1973. Barbieri's band had played at the Newport Jazz Festival at Central Park (NYC) on June 29 for which Motian was paid $150.

  1. Sorry to hear that Gato Barbieri has passed away. Paul Motian played with him on Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra's first album and toured with him in the early 1970s. This French documentary opens with Barbieri's band playing on a rooftop in NYC. Paul Motian on drums and, I think, John Abercrombie on guitar. Can anyone identify the other players?

  2. The 1974 album 'Impulse Artists on Tour' has a cut from what is likely this same band. The lineup is: Bass – Adalberto Cevasco Drums – Domingo Cura, Paul Motian
Electric Guitar – John Abercrombie Guitar – Isoca Fumero*, Quelo Palacios*
Harp – Amadeo Monges Percussion – Jorge Quena – Raul Mercado Tenor Saxophone – Gato Barbieri
